(Audubon) Thirty players are out for baseball at Audubon. The Wheelers oppose Griswold Tuesday evening.
Tuesday’s game will air on 96.5 KSOM. Here’s Audubon coach Matt Wilder, “We’re young. We have 30 kids out and out of the 30 we only have three seniors and two juniors. A lot of those guys got some playing time last year, so I think they should be ready to step into leadership roles and take on the next challenge.”
They have few seniors that are ready to lead the team. “Gavin Larsen really stepped up last year and had a tremendous season. With his senior year we are looking for him to lead the way again. Cooper Nielsen has been behind the plate and been a strong catcher for us since his sophomore season. Jay Remsburg is our other senior that’s been in our outfield the last few years.”
Audubon graduated their top two pitchers from last season, but has a lot of candidates to log some innings on the hill. “We have a lot of guys that can throw. We have to make sure we have a few guys that can pitch. Throwing and pitching are completely different.” Wilder says, “Gavin Larsen will see some innings. Carson Meaike threw for us last year. Aaron Olsen will probably step in and throw a little bit this year. We have an 8th grader in Karter Obermeier that throws it pretty hard, so he’ll probably see some time.”
Brody Schultes, Adam Obrecht, Carson Wessel, and Ely Jorgensen are all candidates to see time on the mound.
Tuesday’s matchup at Griswold starts at 5:30 p.m.
