(Harlan) The Harlan City Council heard an update from Cody Eckles with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office regarding the sharing agreement with the City of Harlan.
The 28E agreement to provide law enforcement for the City of Harlan was put in place due to the challenges of hiring and maintaining a police unit in the City of Harlan. The transition took place in the middle of April. Deputy Cody Eckles said things have gone smoothly.
Eckles said Deputy Lee Whyte was selected for a K9 position.
Eckels also noted that their contract with the City calls for 220 hours a week, but the first week they had 244 hours and even more hours the second week so, he said, getting those hours in won’t be an issue.
