(Council Bluffs) The State called seven witnesses to the stand on Tuesday, the opening day of the State vs. Alison Dorsey trial. The Cass County Woman is standing trial for the death of an infant in her care on October 7, 2019. The case was tried in Cass County District Court in the fall of 2021, but the Judge declared a mistrial when the Jury became deadlocked. Due to the high amount of publicity, the court allowed a change of venue. The proceedings are being held in the Pottawattamie County Courthouse in Council Bluffs.
Prosecuting Attorney Monty Platz called DCI Special Agent Dave Hendrix to the stand on Tuesday. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office asked the DCI to assist in the case.
Platz asked Special Agent Hendrix if their agency is called in when it is unclear if there is a homicide.
Platz asked Hendrix how it came to be; Cass County called the DCI to investigate a baby’s death. Hendrix met with Children’s Hospital Officials on the morning of October 8. Gathered hospital records, spoke with hospital officials involved in the care of Luka, and collected data from the Hodges and Alison Dorsey.
The DCI also traced several phone calls taken throughout the morning before the medical emergency of Luka Hodge.
Hendrix also interviewed Alison Dorsey, at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, along with attorney Jim Mailander and Tammy Dorscher from the DHS on the evening of October 8.
During the cross-examination, defense attorney David Brooks questioned Special Agent Hendrix about a family gathering on October 5.
Testimony continues today at 9:00 a.m.
