(Harlan) Harlan’s next Activities Director and Assistant Principal will be Anthony Donahoo.
The former SW Valley Principal is excited to take on a new challenge in Harlan. “Oh man the emotions are all over the place. We are excited, we are nervous. Anytime you take that next step and next chapter in your families life, it’s about my wife and my children, and there’s a whole lot of things that go into it, but I will say this….the community of Harlan has embraced my family as part of that Cyclone family already. The phone has been blowing up with everyone from Harlan reaching out. It is a town built on excellency and my goal is to come in there and help in any way, shape, or form that I can.”
Donahoo credits SW Valley Activities Director Allen Naugle for teaching him a lot about the craft. “I’m going to take a lot of what he’s done and learn from it. That’s something I got my master’s degree in and really never had an opportunity to do that. I went from physical education and I was a teacher and then as a principal. Allen had a lot of the AD duties, so I am really, really excited to be in that role. I’ll be part time Assistant Principal and part time AD at Harlan. That AD part of it is a big undertaking. I’m willing to come in early and leave late and learn all these things. I’m very excited about that opportunity.”
Harlan had a number of attractive offerings for Donahoo and his family. “Yes. That’s the number one thing. When you walk into the gym and you see the banners and see the excellency and how people carry themselves. Winning is important, but how you go about it at Harlan is the Cyclone way. One of the big things about Harlan that kind of drew me was their excellency in all activities. I had a chance to sit in on the 6th grade band while I was in there and hear how great they were. It really got me excited about my own kids and the opportunities that they were going to have.”
Donahoo comes to Harlan after previous stops at Creston and SW Valley. “I always say thank you to the people I have met along the way.” He spend four years at Creston, followed by seven at SW Valley. “It’s been wonderful. I want to thank everybody for everything that they’ve given me and for the people of Harlan reaching out and already making us feel part of the Cyclone family. We are excited about this next adventure in our life.”
He’ll replace Davis Pattee who was named AHSTW High School Principal in March.
