(Des Moines, IA) The Iowa Senate could consider a bill this week that would limit the powers of the state auditor. The proposal restricts when the state auditor can subpoena state agencies and limits the auditor from accessing types of personal information. The nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency says the measure puts 12 [B] billion dollars in state and federal funds at risk of going without oversight. State Auditor Rob Sand calls the proposal a political move, asking how he can find fraud if he needs permission from the auditee to access their information.
