(Des Moines)The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning from 1:00 a.m. to 9;00 a.m. on Saturday with expected sub-freezing temperatures as low as the upper 20s for the Iowa counties south of Highway 30.
Forecasters say frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, possibly damaging unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold and prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes. They should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those residents with in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
A Freeze Watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
