(Avoca) The AHSTW boys track team has seen a big increase in production since last season.
The Vikings have recorded a number of impressive performances thus far, especially during their home meet on Thursday. “Last year I thought we were one year away. Everybody was sophomores and we had a couple juniors.” Coach Jackson Renberg says, “We had a lot of freshmen and sophomores that were leading the pack and I think that was good for experience. They got a little taste of success and now they want more. It has been a huge jump. And we got some additions, like Luke Sternberg. Him going out is a huge jump for us.”
Coach Jackson Renberg was very encouraged by the 150 points they put up at their home meet to finish as the team runner-up. “I asked a lot out of our guys. A lot of them were in four events. I put a lot of kids in situations that they haven’t been asked to do and there was no complaint. It was encouragement from the teammates and everyone was about trying to win the meet. We came up a little short, but there were so many positives there.”
Coach Renberg lists several notable performers from their last competition.
They’ll compete at Tri-Center on Tuesday. Coach Renberg lists Riverside as the favorite with Logan-Magnolia being another strong team in the field.
