(Griswold) The Griswold girls track team is set to compete at Red Oak on Thursday.
The Tigers have increased their roster size from the start of the season and are putting a strong foot forward. “We had a strong culture to start the season and are adding more leaders to our team. They’ve played together in other sports so it’s been really good for us. We are adding more depth. The girls go into the meets excited. They are competing in some of those events. We have a really young team this year, so we are still working on perfecting things like handoffs.”
Coach Rachel Larsen lists several finishes she was pleased with from the team’s meet on Tuesday at Riverside. It starts with Erynn Peterson who has returned after missing last season with an injury. “She’s back and looking very, very strong. She placed well in the open 100 and open 400. She got 5th and 3rd. That was crucial for us. We have Emma Mundorf and she’s been very versatile for us. She’s running hurdles, 200’s, 400’s, and 800’s. Those were some of the key players in our meet. Addison Adams placed 4th in the 400 Hurdles. A couple of strong 800’s from Dakota Reynolds and Marissa Askeland. We have a freshman, Josie Millikan, who has been running a lot of distance for us. She placed 5th in the 1500 and 4th in the 3000.”
When it comes to the Red Oak meet on Thursday, coach Larsen points out the name of the game is improvement. “We are working on their individual PR’s and their individual times. Go get the girl in front of you and do your best. As long as they are giving it their all I’m happy with how they are performing.”
The meet starts at 4:30 p.m. Other teams in the field are Stanton, SW Valley, Lenox, Sidney, Essex, Bedford, Glenwood, Clarinda, Red Oak, Shenandoah, and St. Albert.
