(Atlantic) According to the American Library Association, the number of books people tried to ban from schools and libraries nearly tripled over the past several years.
Michelle Andersen, Director of the Atlantic Public Library, says the State Library recommends public libraries review its’ Collection Development Policy annually.
Andersen says pockets of people are trying to challenge books they reference as having inappropriate material, such as sexual health information, LGBTQ characters, or focus. Andersen says as a public library, they do their best to ensure something for everyone within the community.
Andersen says some people have verbally complained about some of their material, and she has no problem listening to those concerns. People wanting to file a reconsideration request can fill out a form.
