(Audubon) Practice is underway for the Audubon boys golf team.
The Wheelers will have a roster size of ten. There’s some talent returning from last season. Coach Gary Burton says, “Really looking forward to some of our returning guys. We have Jay Remsburg coming back as a senior. He’s been one of our most consistent and best performers the last few years. Really looking forward to his last season and seeing what he’s able to do. Then we have a nice core of guys that were younger last year. We have Edward Miller and Evan Alt. They were really nice performers for us last year as well.”
Coach Gary Burton is also excited about some less experienced golfers on the squad. “We had a lot of contributions last year from Oliver Deist as a freshman. He’s coming back and he did a really great job. Collin Bauer was newer last year to golf. He’s a senior this year, but he’s bringing back some experience to the team. We have a lot of new players this year.” Burton says, ” It appears they have pretty good experience placing golf. I think we have a lot of talent. If we work hard and play smart I think a lot of good things could happen.” Among those newcomers are Mason Steckler, Nate Terrel, Henry Burr, and Lincoln Sorter.
Coach Burton points out the mental part of golf can be just as important as the physical aspect. “The most important thing for us is just focusing on doing our job.” Burton says, “Making smart decisions. Keeping things in front of you and not trying to get style points. Really just focusing on the mental game. It’s a unique sport where the other team doesn’t affect you when you play. You’re really playing against yourself. The mental game and making smart decisions and not trying to do too much I think is what we are going to focus on this year.”
Coach Burton says he’s excited for the year and looking for some better weather to get in some good practices.
