(Atlantic) The Atlantic Wrestling Team celebrated another successful season at the annual awards banquet on Sunday night.
Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff recognized the eight seniors for leading the 2022-2023 squad to a 13-5 dual record, a district championship at Glenwood, second place finish at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament, second place finish at the Joe Fitch Invitational, third place finish at the John J. Harris, Regional State Dual Finals, and sixteenth place finish at the Iowa High School State Tournament.
“These eight seniors represented the Atlantic wrestling program with class and dignity,” said Coach Duff. “They are quality young men, and I am proud to say they are Trojan Wrestlers. We are excited to see them move on to their next chapters and wish them the best. Thank you for all you have given to the program. We are grateful for your time and effort; you have left your mark on the Atlantic Wrestling Program.”
The eight seniors, Jarrett Armstrong, Brenden Casey, Jayden Cox, Josh Hass, Brent Masker, Miles Mundorf, Easton O’Brien,b and Tanner O’Brien, won a combined 22 varsity letters, finished with a combined 580 career wins,347 pins, and qualified for the state wrestling tournament seven times.
Armstrong, Casey, Mundorf, Easton O’Brien, sophomores Evan Sorensen and Aiden Smith, and freshman Braxton Hass qualified for the 2023 state wrestling tournament. Smith came home with a Class 2A second-place finish in the 113-pound weight class.
