Funeral services for 81-year-old Mavis K. Lebeck of Audubon will be held Monday, March 13, 2023, at 2 PM at Ross Calvary United Methodist Church with burial in the Cameron Center Cemetery. Mavis Kay Lebeck Died March 6, 2023, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital.
The family will meet with friends Sunday March 12, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Mavis Kay Lebeck, the daughter of John G. and Gladys E. (Baldwin) Wiederstein, was born June 26, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa and died March 6, 2023, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Mavis was baptized and confirmed at the Ross Evangelical United Brethren (E.U.B.) Church in Ross, Iowa. She attended school through the eighth grade at Leroy #1 then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1959. During her senior year, she worked at the Treasurer’s Office at the Court House. When a member of the Ross Church, she sang in the choir and was the pianist for Sunday School and later played for the worship services. After graduating from high school, she attended Commercial Extension College in Omaha, Nebraska graduating in April 1960, with a degree in Accounting. Mavis worked at Walnut Grove in Atlantic, Iowa until December 1961. In January 1962, she worked at the Assessor’s Office until April 1968.
On August 18, 1963, Mavis married Ronald Lebeck at the E.U.B. Church. They lived on an acreage in north Audubon until moving to her grandmother’s home in Ross in August 1966. To this union were born three children: Julie, Linda and David. On May 29, 1966, Ronald and Mavis joined the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She played piano for many activities in the church, taught Church School and played piano for Vesper Services at the Nursing Homes. Mavis was General Treasurer for 8 years was Organist, Elder, Deacon and served on several committees, was a member of the Women’s Group and Secretary for 15½ years. Mavis received an Honorary Membership Certificate and pin from Presbyterian Women’s Group in 1986. Ron and Mavis hosted several All-Church Parties for several years at their home in Ross.
Mavis accompanied many band and chorus members from 5th Grade to High School. In 1988, Mavis and Ron were chaperones on a band trip to Washington, D.C. when the Audubon Band played in the 4th of July Parade there. She also played for several community events through the years. Mavis was a member of the Caring and Sharing Board and the Genealogy Club in Audubon. Mavis spent most of her married life working hand in hand with Ron planting, harvesting, canning and storing the bountiful vegetables their garden produced. She and Ron were present most of the time with tables full of vegetables and baked goods at the local farmer’s market. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and family genealogy. Faith, love of her family and music were her favorite things.
Preceding him in death were her brother: Kenneth Wiederstein; her parents: John and Gladys Wiederstein; her grandparents: Ferdinand and Barbara Wiederstein and Edward and Ethel Baldwin; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ed and Jane Lebeck; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Richard and wife Marville Lebeck, Jerald and wife Carol Lebeck, Donald and wife Dorothy Lebeck, Susan Lebeck, Kenneth Lebeck and Arlene Wiederstein; her great-grandchildren: David and Blair Otten.
And is survived by her husband, Ron Lebeck; her daughters; Julie (Monte) Dreher and Linda (Marc) Bills; and her son: David (Lori) Lebeck; her grandchildren John Wahlert of Audubon, Alyssa (Eric) Wickliff of Pella, Amber Campbell of Audubon, Amanda Dreher (Andy), Tiffany (Justin) Walbaum, Colby Grabill (Kourtney), Maison (Adon) Shriver, Miranda Bills (Jesse), Kenzie Bills and nineteen great grandchildren. Her brother; Kendall Wiederstein; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wayne (Pat) Lebeck, Sheri Lebeck, Charlotte Avey and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
