(Griswold) New Griswold Tiger football coach Seth Lembke spoke with KSOM/KS95.7 Sports about taking over the program.
Excited is one word that kept popping up when Lembke was asked about pursuing the head coaching job for Griswold. “I’ve coached here for a long time, I grew up here, I was raised here. Football has always been a passion. To get the opportunity now to lead up the program that I’ve gotten so many benefits from was definitely appealing to me. We have a great group of guys coming back so the timing worked out. I just told the guys that I haven’t been this excited in a long time. I’m just excited to get them going.”
Lembke inherits a squad that will have a two main elements Griswold has been lacking for several years. Those would be depth and experience. “We only lost a couple of seniors from last year that really had significant contributions. Next year we will be primarily juniors and sophomores. We’ll have no seniors next year, so we will still be a little bit on the young side, but the amount of experience those guys have had the last couple of years are going to pay pretty big dividends here in the upcoming season. We had 32 kids show up to our meeting so we are going to depth and experience for the first time in a long time.”
Coach Lembke comments on how he wants to go about building the program. It comes down to three main points of emphasis. “Holding yourselves accountable, having integrity, and being prepared. A lot of the message is just getting the guys ready to go and following those three rules whether it’s in school in the classroom, behavior and school work wise, and in the weight room starting now and into the summer so we can be as prepared as we can be for the next season. Eventually translate that into hopefully they’ll be able to carry those lessons on to later in life.”
