(Neola) Tri-Center faces CAM tonight in a Class 1A Girls Basketball Regional Quarterfinal. The winner advances to take on either Westwood or Boyer Valley on Friday.
The Trojans are 13-9 while the Cougars are 16-6. Tri-Center coach Derek Sonderland is impressed with CAM. “First and foremost obviously coach (Joe) Wollum has done a great job. Before you even look at the stats the first thing that jumps out is how hard those kids play and the fundamentals they have. Certainly impressed when I watched film on them and they have some good athletes.”
There’s no secret about it. CAM wants to play a more up-tempo game while Tri-Center prefers to slow it down. Coach Sonderland says Quincey Schneckloth and others have done a good job of controlling the pace and handling pressure.
Tri-Center has won four of their past five games. They beat West Harrison 63-29 in the first round. “I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start, but our kids were able to find some energy. Once we started hitting a few shots a little bit of confidence gave us a shot to start rolling better. I thought we moved the ball fairly well.”
Tri-Center’s scoring leaders are Taylor Kenkel and Alexis Flaharty. They each average over 8 points per game. Pregame coverage comes your way at around 6:45. The game tips at 7:00.
