(Corning) KSOM and KS95.7 will have coverage on Saturday from the John Harris Wrestling Tournament in Corning. WesternIowaToday.com will offer live video of the finals matches on Saturday afternoon.
There will be 28 teams and 31 ranked wrestlers in the field. Riverside is among the squads that will attend. Head coach Casey Conover says, “Our focus stays the same. Get better each week and compete hard. Basically finish. It’s getting to that time of the year we need to finish matches.”
The Bulldogs picked up dual wins over Underwood and Audubon on Tuesday. “Davis Bramman at 106 looked good. He wrestled really tough and had some nice wins. Jett Rose battled really, really tough. He wrestled a tough kid from Underwood and we competed with him. It’s good to see that. AC Roller beat a kid that he’d lost to at the beginning of the year, so that was a big win.”
Riverside has used depth to their advantage this year with a lot of different athletes getting a shot to compete at the varsity level. “It’s been real good. Kids are battling. We still have some kids battling for weights and trying to get down to weight. It has been very competitive. I can’t say anything negative about our young kids. They show up every day and work hard. Out of our 23 kids we have 20 sophomores and freshmen. They come in with a good attitude and work hard.”
Creston is the defending champ and is expected to be a favorite again this year. Meet officials list Atlantic, Winterset, Riverside and Missouri Valley as some of the other top contenders.
