(Atlantic) Across the state, counties are participating in Alert Iowa, the official emergency notification system for the State of Iowa. Through the system, both state and local officials can notify residents of emergency and public safety announcements.
Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon highly encourages people to sign up for the system.
90 of the 99 counties in Iowa utilize the program including Cass, Shelby, Pottawattamie, and more. Individuals can sign up to receive free alerts through 3 different sources: text message, email, and voice message.
To sign up for Alert Iowa, you can create a profile through the county’s website opt in page. You can also download the SMART911 App or text 672-83 with your county name, followed by IA. For more information or to sign up through your county’s webpage, visit homelandsecurity.iowa.gov/alert-iowa
