(Elk Horn) Cash Emgarten scored 20 points, Aiden Flathers scored 18, and Easton Nelson pitched in with 16 to lead Exira-EHK to a boys basketball win on Tuesday. The Spartans are unblemished heading into the holiday break after beating Boyer Valley 72-55.
Drew Volkmann scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half for the Bulldogs. Hot 3-point shooting kept the visitors in the game. Boyer Valley made seven 3-pointers in the first half. Volkman drained four of them and Evan Ten Eyck made three. Cael Beam added three 3-pointers in the 2nd half to help keep the came competitive. Ten Eyck and Beam each scored 13 on the night.
Boyer Valley got the first bucket, but the lead was brief. A Derrek Kommes 3-pointer put Exira-EHK up for good. The Spartans led by as much as 16 points in the 1st half, but Boyer Valley used a 9-0 run to close within 33-26. They eventually snugged things up to a five point game at 35-30, but Exira-EHK scored the final four points of the half to lead 39-30 at the break.
Both offenses struggled in the 3rd quarter. Exira-EHK outscored Boyer Valley in the frame 9-8 to lead 48-38 through three. The Bulldogs were never able to get any closer than ten down in the 4th. They fall to 0-6 on the year. Exira-EHK moves to 7-0.
