(Avoca) AHSTW’s new Superintendent of Schools Darin Jones says he is looking forward to the start of the school year.
“I’m extremely excited to start the school year. I’ve got an opportunity to see a few practices and meet students or at least be visible to students. ‘I’ve met a few of the staff members, but I am excited to meet everyone formally and start forming relationships with everyone in the School District.”
Mr. Jones has 23 years of experience in the field of education and served as the Elementary Principal for the Montezuma Community School District for the past 11-years. He began his duties as AHSTW Schools Superintendent on July 1.
“The elementary position was an exciting time and it gave me an opportunity to work with teachers directly and help them with student learning in a big way,” said Jones. “The role as Superintendent allows me to continue to do that in a broader scope.”
Jones says his biggest challenge moving forward is learning his new position as Superintendent and learning how he can support the staff and community.
“We need to work together to build a collaborative culture within our school and community,” explained Jones. “We need to identify how we can work together to increase opportunities for our students. Because their learning is the most important part and that’s why we’re here.”
Classes for AHSTW students begin August 28.
