(Area) Donations of deer hides are being accepted through the Elk’s Lodge.
Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR says Cass County locations include Wiota, Atlantic, and Griswold. deer hides “The Elk’s collect deer hides which are then used to make leather goods for veterans in wheelchairs.”
Hayes says through this program hunters donated over 400,000 hides last year. “Iowa ranks second in the nation in the number of hides donated. So if you are an archery deer hunter and you harvest a deer in the next week or so consider donating that hide to the Elk’s Lodge and know that it will be turned into leather that will go towards a veteran’s leather program.”
In Atlantic hides can be dropped off at 411 Walnut Street, outside the fire station in Wiota, and at the American Legion Building in Griswold.
