(Nodaway) Incumbent Republican State Senator Tom Shipley is heading back to the state house for a third term. Shipley defeated Democrat and Villisca City Councilman Tripp Narup for the newly drawn Iowa Senate District #9 seat, 17,785 to 5,298.
The Nodaway Republican tells KSOM/KS95 News he appreciates all the support he received from the voters.
Shipley running unopposed in the June Primary election, pointed to tax reform as one of the legislature’s main accomplishments. He says he and his colleagues in the chamber worked as a team to bring tax reform, lower the state’s tax rate, and eliminate taxes on retirement income. Shipley admits he has never run on an agenda, but some of the items he will be working on is getting operational sharing money for rural schools.
The Nodaway Republican first took office in 2014. The newly drawn District #9 includes; Cass, Montgomery, Adams, Page, Taylor, Ringgold, and parts of Union County.
