(Atlantic) During the public forum at the end of Wednesday’s Atlantic City Council meeting, councilman Gerald Brink brought up a recent conversation with an individual.
Brink said several weeks ago, this person approached him, stating the City Council is a pawn of the City Administrator John Lund. Brink says he thanked the individual for the feedback.
Councilperson Elaine Otte admitted she had had an individual approach with the same question posed to Councilman Brink.
Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett says that when the mayor (Garrett) and the current council took their seats, they were given a survey in January.
Garrett says secondly, there is a lot of work done on the backside of this office before they come to the council table.
Mayor Garrett says the City Council is not taking things lightly and is doing what is best for the City of Atlantic. Mayor Garrett assured the citizens of Atlantic councilmembers are not afraid to vote against their fellow members. The staff is feeding the council the necessary information to make wise decisions.
Atlantic City Clerk Barb Barrick also announced at the end of Wednesday’s meeting that Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett, Councilmember Elaine Otte, and Councilman Jim Behrens received the certified elected official status from the Iowa League of Cities. This certification is given to elected officials committed to continuing professional development as elected officials in numerous training activities.
