(Shelby Co) The Shelby County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday held another public hearing on an ordinance relating to the hazardous liquid pipeline.
According to the meeting minutes, the Board heard from several individuals, including Harlan School Superintendent Jennifer Barnett who spoke about student and faculty safety. Rick Chipman, a grain and livestock producer who lives within steps of the proposed route, stated that livestock protocols for any pipeline accidents and permanent damage to conservation related practices on his operation is a concern. Harlan City Administrator Gene Gettys said the Council passed a resolution of support for the Board of Supervisors regarding the pipeline. He also said placing a hazardous pipeline has possibilities of limiting economic development. Other individuals also expressed their concerns for safety and thanked the Supervisors for their efforts.
Following the public hearing the Supervisors approved the ordinance amending various sections of the Shelby County Zoning Ordinance for the purpose of regulating and restricting the use of land for the transport of hazardous liquid through a hazardous liquid pipeline.
