(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors held the second Public Hearing on the sale of the county-owned farm this morning. There were no comments from the public.
The county-owned farm includes the old Willow Heights building, approximately 115 acres of row crop ground and approximately 35 acres of pasture ground.
Supervisor Bernard Pettinger passed along a comment he received regarding the sale of the farm…
Supervisor John Hartkopf said he has heard similar comments.
Board Chairman Steve Baier said he doesn’t see this as an investment…
Supervisor Steve Green said he would still like to see a portion set aside for some economic development…
Supervisor Mark O’Brien said he doesn’t think the county should own farm ground and rent it. Steve Baier said the county has lost the initial reason why the county acquired the land and they have spent nearly ten months of trying to find another way that it could serve as a residential center or VA center to no avail.
At last week’s meeting, the board had stated it was their desire to sell all of the property and agreed to move forward with getting requests for proposals from realtors/land companies.
The Supervisors took no further action this morning.
