(Guthrie Center) KSOM’s 2nd round playoff broadcast will be a Class 1A tilt between ACGC and Underwood.
The Chargers are 7-2 while the Eagles are undefeated and ranked 3rd by the AP. ACGC coach Cody Matthewson says, “I’m sure they are hungry and I’m sure they are looking for an opportunity. The way the state podded it up in my opinion was separating the top four teams with West Sioux, Underwood, Van Meter, and West Branch. They have their sites on the dome and they are looking to spoil our party too.”
The Chargers have several high caliber rushing options, but perhaps the most reliable and consistent source of production throughout the course of the season has been quarterback Brock Littler. The three year starter has a team high 829 rushing yards and 13 scores. “He’s kind of the guy when we need a big play we’ll put the ball in the quarterbacks hands.” Matthewson says, “He never disappoints.”
Other big contributors to the team’s 2,941 rushing yards have been Seth Reno and Austin Kunkle with 769 and 725 yards, respectively.
ACGC beat Treynor 34-29 in a back and forth first round game. It was the sixth game they’ve played that has been decided by one possession and the team is 5-1 in those contests. “They’ve just been a resilient group. They are a tough group of kids. They just find ways to win. You start winning games and get that confidence that you expect to win and that’s where we are at as a program right now.”
Austin Kunkle ran for 143 yards and two TD’s on 17 carries in the first round win. Nate Chance led the defense with 6.5 tackles.
