(Ames) Following a 3-0 start to the year, Iowa State has lost four straight football games. All four of the contests have been by seven points or less including a 24-21 setback at #22 Texas on Saturday.
A Hunter Dekkers 11 yard scoring run early in the 4th quarter gave the visitors a 21-17 lead, but Texas responded with a scoring drive to go in front 24-21 with 4:43 remaining. ISU’s final possession saw the Cyclones move the ball with an 8-play, 43 yard drive to get on the verge of field goal range, but the series ended with a fumble. Texas was able to milk the final 2:06 off the clock to improve to 5-2.
Dekkers threw for 329 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He was also the Cyclones leading rusher with one touchdown and 30 of their 74 yards and the ground. Xavier Hutchinson caught ten passes for 154 yards. Jaylin Noel had six catches for 94 yards and two TD’s.
3-4 Iowa State hosts Oklahoma on October 29th. The Sooners snapped a three game skid on Saturday with their 52-42 decision over #19 Kansas.
