(Anita) The CAM Cougar football team is gaining momentum at the right time. They’ll travel to Coon Rapids-Bayard this week.
CAM is back on track to say the least. The Cougars have posted back to back statement victories with a 42-8 win against Audubon and 60-18 decision over Exira-EHK. Here’s coach Barry Bower, “Over the last couple of weeks we have found our niche regarding our personnel. I think sometimes when you try to shift some people you try to find out what their roles are, what their strengths are, and we are starting to find those. Our kids have done a very, very nice job of understanding there role and being very unselfish. They are playing hard.”
Chase Spieker was on his ‘A’ game last week with 194 yards and five touchdowns on 12/15 passing with no interceptions. Sam Foreman has been a big security blanket. The 6’4″ senior is 2nd in 8-Player with 693 receiving yards. The team’s play the last two weeks has eased the sting of back-to-back one possession losses to West Harrison and East Mills. “We’ve seen a little bit of what we can become. I think that’s exciting to our kids. If they keep working hard and buying in then they have all the capabilities.” Bower says, “If we can be efficient and not turn the ball over we’ve got as good a shot as anybody to win a gall game.”
Coach Bower speaks very highly of Coon Rapids-Bayard. “They are very well coached and improved. We know we are going to have our hands full on Friday.” Bower points out Lance Clayburg is an absolutely tremendous athlete and physical specimen. We have to be ready for their physicality.”
Lance Clayburg leads the rushing attack with 663 yards, but they have other weapons too. Among them are Wyatt Oswald, Omarion Floyd, and Colby Culbertson.
CAM is 3-1 in 8-Player, District 10 with CR-B and Boyer Valley remaining on the schedule next week. Coon Rapids-Bayard comes into the contest at 2-2 in the district and 3-3 overall. The Crusaders are trying to snap a two game skid against West Harrison and Audubon.
