(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday tabled an American Rescue Plan Act funding request from the Cumberland Public Library for a new roof.
Cumberland Library Director Carolyn Hartmann said the library has been needing a new roof for about 15 years. The roof is leaking and sagging.
The patching for the roof has come out of the library’s budget. Hartmann said she does not have money in her budget to pay for a new roof.
The Supervisors were a little reluctant to provide funding to fix a City building because it could open a can of worms with other cities possibly wanting county ARPA funding to fix their buildings.

The Supervisors asked that Library officials look to see if there are other funding options available; therefore, they tabled action on the funding request and will revisit it again on October 11th.
In other news, the Supervisors approved the appointment of Stephanie Witzman as a part time shared employee between the Attorney and Sheriff’s Offices at a rate of $24 per hour effective October 3rd. Sheriff Darby McLaren says Witzman rose to the top out of all of the candidates. She has over 23 years of experience in the Sheriff’s Office and she has worked in the Clerk of Court’s Office for 11 months.
