(Audubon) The Audubon School District’s efforts to recover a financial loss from their General Contractor pulling out of the renovation project have reached the finish line.
A settlement has been reached with Construct. “At the end of the day our district will be held harmless financially. Our only issue with this whole fiasco was the scheduling changes.” Audubon Superintendent Eric Trager says, “I think most people are aware that we had a general contractor that just absolutely failed to show up to work on our project. We went into mediation with them to make sure that we could recoup some of that loss and we got a settlement for $225,000 plus our legal fees so the board approved that.”
Additionally, the school district will not have to pay the difference between the two bids. “The remainder of the difference between our original bid and the new bid our construction manager is going to cover and they are doing that without any litigation, without any argument. They are essentially stepping up and doing the right thing so we appreciate that.”
All things considered, Trager weighs in on the outcome. “Happy? No, probably not. I wish none of this had happened, but you really have to focus on what it’s going to look like at the end of the day. At the end of the day we’ll be on time and on budget, so you have to be happy about that.”
The board also approved a pair of change orders for the project Monday night.
