(Anita) CAM’s homecoming matchup on Friday night will have the Cougars hosting a hot Audubon squad.
Just in case the Wheelers didn’t have CAM’s full attention, a 64-30 win over Exira-EHK last week proved Audubon is a real threat to claim to win the district. “They do some great things. They’ve got Aaron Olsen who does a nice job in the passing game. Even though he’s only thrown for 248 yards he’s still throwing at a 65% completion rate. Running the football they are so dynamic with their formation and getting him in space. Then when you hone in on him you have Manny (Beisswenger) and Evan (Alt) and the other weapons that they have.” Bower says, “We know they are going to be well coached and we respect the heck out of those guys.”
Coach Barry Bower’s squad is trying to snap a two game losing skid. They’ve dropped back-to-back tight games against West Harrison and East Mills. Last week in a 40-38 loss to the Wolverines, CAM had chances, but couldn’t cash in. “We can’t turn the ball over three times and expect to win a ball game. We have to capitalize on certain things. We put ourselves in position to win the ball game and had a holding penalty and some other penalties that drove us back. You can’t do that. When you have a first and goal with sixty some seconds left we have to be able to finish that.”
Despite the loss last week Sam Foreman had a monster game. The 6-4 190 pound senior caught 14 passes for 245 yards and two scores. “We want to establish the run game, but if people want to lead the box we have some weapons on the outside we can go to. He really did a nice job.” Bower says, “When he gets a chance to make a play he’s definitely going to make it and that’s what’s been impressive.”
CAM enters Friday matchup at 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the district. Audubon is 2-3 overall and 2-0 in district play. These teams played not one, but two top ten rated showdowns a year ago. CAM beat Audubon 58-42 in the regular season and 66-29 in the state semifinals.
