(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley/O-M hits the road this week to face ACGC. The Wolverines are 0-4 and the Chargers are 3-1.
ACGC is known for their run-heavy attack. Coach Cody Matthewson’s squad has the #5 ground output in Class 1A with an average of 300 rushing yards per game. Nodaway Valley/O-M coach Seth Comly reports the ability to stop the run as a strength of the Wolverine defense. “Honestly that’s probably where we’ve played our best ball is against the run. It may not look like it with the yards we’ve given up, but considering how fast we play and how many times we get possessions, we do a fairly good job of stopping the run.”
Nodaway Valley/O-M lost last week to Interstate-35 by a score of 35-0. “I would say the big things is just finding out who we are offensively. Getting ourselves in a position to be more efficient on offense. That’s been a struggle since the beginning of the season. Getting into a rhythm has taken us a little of time. Last Friday I feel like even though we had some of our woes, we saw some flashes of some things that we like. We figured out who needed to go where for sure. It’s kind of like a new season for us. There’s going to be a learning curve, but I think we ended up getting things in place and we are moving in the right direction.”
Coach Comly his hoping a full week of practice with the team will be beneficial this week. “It’s going to be huge. It’s going to be a lot different. Getting back to normal and I think that’ll be big for us. Last Friday it was hard to coach things up when the game plan you are using is something you’re just figuring out on the fly. It’s hard to make adjustments. I want to coach guys a certain way and I’m being told that wasn’t their game plan. This week it’ll be all on the same page and able to communicate and make adjustments a lot better than last week when it seemed like we were trying to survive.”
KSOM will broadcast the Nodaway Valley/O-M at ACGC matchup. Pregame starts with the “In the Huddle” show at 5:30. The game kicks at 7:00.
