(Glenwood) West Elementary School in Glenwood was named a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School.
The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. There were 297 schools recognized nationwide and five of them were in Iowa.
Superintendent Dr. Devin Embray said this is exciting news for not only West Elementary, but the entire district.
Embray said after they were nominated, they had to fill out an application which is scrutinized at the state and national level.
The Education Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates. Those categories are Exemplary High Performing Schools and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools. Glenwood West Elementary is an Exemplary High Performing School which means they are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
West Elementary School in Glenwood serves 3rd through 5th Grade with a total of 449 students.
