(Area) Youth Deer Season opens Saturday.
The season runs through October 2nd. “It’s open to Iowa residents who are younger than 16 years old the day they purchase the license.” Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR says, “Youth hunters must be under the direct supervision of an adult mentor who has a valid license and had has paid the habitat fee.”
Only one youth hunter may accompany each adult mentor. “Clothing requirements, method of take, and all other deer hunting regulations are in effect during the youth deer season. So if you’re required to wear blaze orange like you are during the gun seasons, if you’re a youth hunter using a rifle or shotgun you’ll be required to wear the blaze orange.”
Youth hunters can use a bow, shotgun, rifle, or muzzle loader. Unfilled tags during the youth season can be used during any of the following deer seasons.
