(Des Moines, IA) — August saw below-normal rainfall for Iowa. It was the fifth straight month with below-normal precipitation, and the DNR’s Tim Hall says the state needs a rainfall rally. He says the current drought has been “sort of lingering and brewing for a couple of years,” and getting out of it will take “month over month over month of above-normal rainfall.” Rivers and streams are running low in some of the drought areas — which can lead to water quality issues. Hall notes, though, that Iowa has seen a trend in recent years of above-normal rainfall in September and October.
