(Treynor) Treynor football is 2-0 on the season heading into a Week 3 matchup at 0-2 Clarinda.
Treynor beat St. Albert 21-17 in Week 1 and followed it up with a 34-22 decision over Tri-Center. They used a balanced offensive attack to get by the Trojans with 140 passing yards and 168 rushing yards. QB Kayden Dirks led the way with a pair of TD passes plus 91 yards rushing with one TD. Karson Elwood caught three passes for 100 yards and two TD’s. Coach Jeff Casey says, “We just kind of opened things up a little bit more offensively this year. Trying to get more kids involved in our offensive scheme. We have some talented athletes spread out across the field. Our old system we were really concerned with clock management and controlling the ball and trying to get 4-5 yards per play.”
They prepare for a Clarinda team with losses to Creston (28-12) and Underwood (59-22). Clarinda is led by a three headed rushing attack of Tadyn Brown (185 yards), Karson Downey (104 yards) and quarterback Wyatt Schmitt (105) yards. “They’ve given us really good games the last two years.” Treynor coach Jeff Casey says, “They are a physical football team. They play really fast and aggressive. They have a really good coach that always gets them ready to roll.
Last year’s tilt between these squads was a close one with Treynor pulling it out 20-13. Casey adds, “They are a lot better than what their record shows. This is a team I knew coming into the season was going to give us a lot of challenges.”
