(Harlan) After a tough, tight loss to Lewis Central in Week 1 the Harlan Cyclones responded in a big way. Coach Todd Bladt’s group beat Grinnell 63-6 on Friday night and now prepares for Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Week 3.
Harlan eased the sting of letting one slip away against the Titans by beating the Tigers big. They led 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter and ballooned the lead to 49-0 by halftime.
Teagon Kasperbauer completed 6/9 throws for 117 yards with three touchdowns. Noah Schmitz ran 18 times for 59 yards and two scores. Aidan Hall, Landen Kaufman, and Cade Sears all had over 40 receiving yards with one TD apiece. Sears also returned a punt to the house. “We did some good things running the football. We were able to get up to our assignments and get things done the way we’d like it to be done. Running the ball I think we were effective. Throwing the ball we had some really nice catches and nice grabs down the field. We started clicking better on offense and will look to build on that. Still have a lot of things we can improve.”
The Cyclone defense held Grinnell to 2/12 passing and just 92 total yards. They tallied five sacks and recovered a pair of fumbles.
This week Harlan meets a Sergeant Bluff-Luton team that his 0-2. The Warriors have lost 17-14 to LeMars in Week 1 and 42-0 to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in their last outing. Coach Todd Bladt says, “They play pretty physical up front and are pretty tenacious. They have a good linebacking core for the most part.” Bladt adds, “They have some road graders in there at offensive line.”
Sergeant Bluff-Luton has won two of their last three meetings against Harlan.
