Eleanor Kay Tietz, the daughter of Clair A. and E. Yvonne (Westfall) Bissell, was born May 16, 1939, at her home in Anita, IA. She passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
She attended the Cumberland Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1957. After graduation, Eleanor was employed at Pub News in Atlantic, IA.
On June 19, 1960, she was united in marriage to Dennis Ray Tietz at St. John’s United Church of Christ south of Lyman. They were blessed with three children: Kristi, Lori, and Lenny. She was a homemaker for several years raising their children. In 1972, they purchased the Howell Feed Store in Lyman and Eleanor and Dennis owned and operated Tietz Feed and Supply until they closed the business in 1995. Dennis died December 11, 2003.
Eleanor was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ south of Lyman. She was very active in the U.C.C. women’s fellowship group, sang in the choir for many years, attended Bible Study on a regular basis, and was a youth fellowship leader for many years. She was a member of the Griswold Care Center Auxiliary, served on the West Central Community Action Board for many years, and was very involved in 4-H and fair activities during her children’s 4-H years. She volunteered at the Cass County Museum in Griswold and was a large part of the Griswold Food Pantry and volunteered countless hours there which she loved to do. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis R. Tietz; her parents; sister-in-law, Delores and husband Darrell Schrader; niece, Sheri Rush; and her nephews, Kevin Bissell and Greg Kline.
She is survived by her children: Kristi and husband Joe Morehouse of Omaha, NE, Lori Wade of Norton Shores, MI, and Lenny and wife Jenifer Tietz of Nebraska City, NE; grandchildren: Michael McMullen of Omaha, NE, Kira McMullen of Grand Ledge, MI, Kyle Wade of Everett, MA, Ryan Wade of Battle Creek, MI, Laura and husband Scotty Kilpatrick of Nebraska City, NE, Nicholas and wife Lizzie Chelle-Andersen of Lincoln, NE, Christian Tietz of Lincoln, NE, and Madisen Tietz of Nebraska City, NE; two great grandsons, Finnegan and Niles Kilpatrick both of Nebraska City, NE; brother, Harold and wife Rosalie Bissell of Waukee, IA; sister-in-law, Eloyce and husband Jerry Kline of Griswold; brother-in-law, Larry and wife Jean Tietz of Griswold; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold, IA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s United Church of Christ south of Lyman, IA with Pastor Mark Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery south of Lyman. Memorials are preferred to the family for a later designation.
