Jane Schuler, age 82 of Atlantic, IA, died at the Heritage House in Atlantic on Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was born the daughter of Floyd H. and Pearl (Nelson) Petersen on August 31, 1939, in Atlantic. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1957.
After graduation, Jane worked at Farm Bureau for a year before she married Duane Schuler on March 30, 1958. As a farm wife through and through, Jane liked driving the tractor, hauling in, and unloading ears of corn, and taking her grandchildren to feed the pigs (especially Petunia). Jane loved to cook and was always making something for the men in the field, family, and friends. Her potato salad and cherry bars were always top requests and are now considered cherished secret family recipes. She was known as an avid game player and had a basement full of classics that she enjoyed teaching her grandchildren. Miraculously, they always seemed to beat her though her rules were: “you had to play by the rules”.
Jane loved to travel and had especially fond memories of her time fishing at the Lake of the Woods in Canada, going to Branson and watching the shows, and later in life, spending winters with family and friends in Arizona. In true Jane fashion, she always made sure people were taken care of by having medicine and first aid items with her especially on family camping trips. If she couldn’t fix you, you needed to go to the ER.
To Jane, family was everything. She loved to attend the Petersen Cousins Reunion every year in different states and looked forward to breakfast with the Nelson cousins on their birthdays. She never met a stranger and made sure you felt welcome whether she was greeting you at church or standing in line at the grocery store. She loved people right up to the end, and always made sure those around her were taken care of.
She is preceded in death by, her parents. Jane is surivied by her husband, Duane of Atlantic, sons, Daniel (Sheryl) Schuler and Alan (Diana) Schuler all of Atlantic; grandchildren, Tiffiney (Aaron) Baumgarden and Christopher (Jessica) Schuler both of Kansas City, Amanda (Cody) Will of Wiota, Nicholas (Sydney) Schuler of Boone, Joshua (Cecilia) Schuler and Emily (Matt) Groves both of Cumberland; step-grandchildren, Tracey (Eric) Love of Waukee, Chris (Joni) Kelley of Elliott and Megan Townsend of Omaha; as well as twenty great grandchildren.
