(Villisca) The lack of a candidate on the Democratic Ballot for Iowa Senate District #9 prompted Villisca City Councilman Tripp Narup to throw his hat in the ring.
Narup will challenge Republican Incumbent Tom Shipley for the seat in November. The newly drawn district includes all of Cass, Adams, Montgomery, Page, Taylor, Ringgold, and the western portion of Union County.
Narup addresses four issues, tax code, infrastructure, women’s rights, and education. Narup says the state legislature must support our teachers and adequately fund Iowa schools.
Narup believes Iowa women have the right to decide their bodies and healthcare options. He says Iowa should be a state where residents decide whether and when to have children.
Tripp Narup isn’t a big fan of the Flat tax.
Narup says there is nothing fair about a flat tax, and low-income Iowans will bear a greater responsibility.
Besides these issues, Narup points to a need to improve infrastructure. According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, Iowa has the worst bridges in the entire country. Narup says the federal inspection reports rank 19 percent of Iowa’s bridges in poor or worse condition. Narup says the state needs a comprehensive plan to address this problem so farmers can get to their fields and harvests to market.
