(Clarinda) The Page County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of 180th Street and Redwood Avenue in Page County Sunday evening for a helicopter that had taken down an electrical power line. A resident of this area notified PAGECOMM dispatch of this incident.
The investigation indicated that a Bell Helicopter, model 206, owned by JBI helicopters of Abbeville, Louisiana was spraying a field in the area when the pilot, Oren William Perkins of Abbeville, Louisiana, struck the wire unintentionally, cutting the wire with the blade of the helicopter. The pilot then returned to the designated landing zone near 205th Street and T Avenue in Montgomery County where it landed. The Page County Sheriff’s Office notified the FAA of this incident.
No injuries were reported.
Damage estimate to the helicopter is unavailable at this time.
Damage estimate to the power line and transformer is estimated at $270,000. The power transition line is owned by Mid-American Energy. The transformer is owned by Southwest Iowa REC.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clarinda Fire Department at the scene.
