Doug Schmidt, 60, of Massena passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Celebration of Life Service: Will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena with burial in the Massena Center Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Father Phillip Bempong will officiate the service. Open Visitation: Will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena.
Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Doug Schmidt Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Julie Schmidt of Massena; daughter, Samantha Jenkins and husband Will of Massena; three sons, Tucker Schmidt and wife Brittni of Wiota, Sidney Schmidt and wife Krista of Massena and Toby Schmidt of Massena; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Doug was raised in Massena and graduated C&M High School in 1979. After high school he drove a truck for his dad. In February of 1988 he married Julie Ann Sherley in Benton County Arkansas. To this union they raised four children: Samantha, Tucker, Sidney, and Toby.
Doug trucked for several companies until 1999. This is when he bought his own truck and then started Doug Schmidt Trucking. Doug would take his kids with him whenever he could. He wanted to show them the world. He was able to show two of his children 48 states! He loved showing them new places, people, and taking them on adventures! From California to Nebraska, Wisconsin to Florida, and everywhere in between. He was so proud that his boys followed in his footsteps and got their CDL’s so that they could show their children the world too.
Doug loved becoming a grandpa (Papa) of five beautiful grandchildren and taking every moment to spoil them. They were his pride and joy. He worked hard for his family to give them everything they needed, even if it meant being on the road for miles. This was all for the love of his family. Doug also enjoyed calling and talking to friends. He loved telling them about loads or even just to chat and see how they were doing. If you wanted to know how to get somewhere, or what roads to take, or the best place to get fuel, you could call Doug and he would answer to try and help you.
He is preceded in death by his dad Varel Schmidt and brother Larry Jay Schmidt.
