Mark “Curly” Boyd Carlton, the son of Boyd and Juanita (Hansen) Carlton, was born January 26, 1967, in Red Oak, IA. He died at his home in Griswold, IA, June 29, 2022, at the age of 55 years.
Curly attended school at Griswold, graduating with the class of 1985. After graduating, he began working for Hansen Elevator south of Griswold. In the early 2000’s, Curly began working for John Hollen, doing lawn care. Curly also worked for Rick Conry, before becoming employed by Bob’s Mowing. Curly had worked for Bob’s mowing for 17 years.
Curly had always been active in athletics. When he wasn’t playing, he was coaching, watching, or umpiring. He loved coaching the students over the years, and all that were coached by Curly loved him. He impacted many children’s lives in a positive way. He will be missed on the field and in the gym.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a special aunt Myra Hansen.
Curly is survived by his children: McKenna Carlton, Ryan Carlton, Brooke (Levi) Curtis, Marcus (Alisha) Josephson, and Erin (Kyle) Johnson; his brother Jim (Laura) Carlton; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 5-8 PM, at the Griswold Community Building. Please wear your Iowa Hawkeye or Chicago Cubs attire to help celebrate Curly’s life. A private family interment will take place at the Griswold Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
