(Cass Co.) Tensions continue between the Cass County Treasurer and Board of Supervisors regarding pay for new hires.
Cass County Treasurer Tracey Marshall asked the Board to hire another individual starting at $20 per hour. Marshall has been trying to get her office back to full staff after several employees recently left.
The Supervisors said they don’t think they can change precedence when everyone else has been hired at $18 per hour.
Marshall said she did not promise the new hire a salary, but this person would not come to work if she would not get what she was previously making. She said if the other employees would be upset with hiring this person at $20 per hour, she would deal with it.
In the end, the Supervisors approved hiring the new employee at $18 per hour and then after 90-days, with adequate performance reviews, the employee would move to $20 per hour.
Meanwhile, the Treasurer’s Office remains closed while new employees are being trained.
In other activity, the Supervisors approved the ISAC HIPPA Contract; approved the Engineer’s contract for another three years; approved the Secondary Roads Employment Contract; approved appropriating the 2022-2023 budget authority; and approved the auditing firm contract for FY 2022 with Gronewold, Bell, Kyhnn. The Supervisors also approved to low bid from Gus Construction in the amount of $443,631.64 to replace a bridge with a box culvert on Boston Road one half mile east of Olive Street.
