(Pocahontas, IA) — The Animal Rescue League says its Mobile Rescue Team has removed 30 cats and kittens from a vacant home in Pocahontas. The owner had left them behind in a hot, filthy house without food or water. Temperatures had been in the upper-80s and 90s and the house had no electricity and very little light was coming in. Rescuers say feces, urine, and trash covered the floors, stairs, and even some countertops. In one closet, the layer of feces covering the floor was nearly an inch thick. The cats and kittens are being treated by the A-R-L’s Miracle Medical Team. A news release says there is no way they would have survived much longer without food or water.
