(Red Oak) Harlan played well in all phases and rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Red Oak on Monday.
The 16-5 Cyclones have won six in a row and take a lot of momentum into a big showdown with Class 3A #4 Lewis Central on Tuesday. Coach Heath Stein’s squad started the week on a high note defeating Red Oak 14-0 and 21-3. Alex Monson tossed a three hit shoutout in game one with one walk and seven strikeouts.
He was backed up by more than enough run support. Harlan scored three runs in the 1st inning, seven in the 3rd, and two each in the 4th and 5th.
The Cyclones knocked out fourteen hits in game one and drew five walks. Joey Moser, Alex Monson, and Luke Musich all went 2/3. Cade Sears delivered a two run triple, his 6th triple of the year.
In game two Harlan would score one run in the 1st, seven in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, five in the 4th, and six in the 5th. Brett Heese’s three run homer in the 5th inning was the big shot. Heese was one of seven straight pinch hitters to be used towards the end of the game. It was a stretch that saw Heese go deep, Weston Reisz post an RBI single, Landen Kaufman walk, Brock Lemerick single, and Josef Reisz record an RBI double. Other offensive notables in game two included Cade Sears going 2/3 with three RBI, Luke Musich hitting a single and double, and Teagon Kasperbauer finishing with two hits and two RBI.
Cael Goshorn got the win with four innings pitched, two hits, four walks, two earned runs, and three strikeouts. Luke Musich got the final inning of work and gave up one walk and one earned run.
Red Oak drops to 9-11 on the season. Braden Woods had two of their three hits in game one. Landon Couse doubled and scored twice in game two. AJ Schmid had an RBI single.
