(Audubon) A bond issue for the Audubon Fire Station will be up for a vote this fall.
It’s take two for the fire department as they’ll be seeking 60% yes votes on the November ballot. Only 33% were in favor last November, but there were less than 600 votes cast.
“The Fire Department has worked out cost saving issues and they think now they need about $2.8 million to do a partial phase of the building.”
City Clerk Joe Foran says the pool will also be bonding for $400,000. This is for repairs to or replacement of original equipment which is around 30 years old. $1.5 million was the original goal for repairs and upgrades, but the council doesn’t want to stretch themselves too thin. “Their concern was with the Fire Station going up there’s not enough bonding capacity for both projects.”
In other news, the council discussed adding a four way stop at Third and Southside with the addition of a sidewalk from the rec center to the school. The city will proceed with three hearings to adopt that intersection as a four way stop.
