(Oakland) The Riverside baseball team has opened the season with a 1-5 record. The Bulldogs will be on the air tonight on KSOM when they host IKM-Manning.
Riverside’s last outing was a 1-0 setback to Tri-Center on Tuesday. Head coach Cole Chapin comments on the pitching performance from Grady Jeppesen who allowed one earned run, walked four, and surrendered four hits. “Just fantastic. I mean, he’s a competitor.” Chapin says, “He just wants to go out and compete and that’s what you want in any of your athletes.” Chapin adds, “He’s commanding the zone very well. I’m looking forward to seeing how he does the rest of the season, but he’s off to a really good start.”
Coach Chapin admits after losing a big group to graduation there will be opportunities for new faces to step up this year. “We have one senior out, Rhett Bentley. He didn’t play last year, but he’s been doing a really good job for us, especially from a leadership standpoint. I have a couple of juniors with Aiden Bell and Nate Messerschmidt. They do a very good job for us. They’ve been around the program with me now for three years. They understand what we are trying to preach.”
Pregame coverage comes your way Thursday evening at around 7:15 on 96.5 FM KSOM.
