(Atlantic) Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District #4 Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy discussed window tints during KSOM Radio’s Trooper Tips program with Frank Rizzo.
Trooper McCreedy points to a recent project in Guthrie County where law enforcement served seven or eight citations for illegal window tints. In Iowa, the law states; that the front passenger and driver’s side windows are required to admit no less than 70-percent of light. There is no tint restriction on the passenger rear windows.
The citations are $135.50.
In July 2012, Iowa didn’t permit darker window tinting for medical exemptions. However, medical exemptions approved before July 4, 2012, may apply; the person’s grandfathered in before the change in the law must carry exemption form 432020 in the documented vehicle.
