(Greenfield) Flynn Heald will lead the Nodaway Valley football program. Heald will be the program’s third head coach in as many years following Steve Shantz and Taylor Ashman. He says he plans to bring a newer style of football with a spread, tempo offense.
“Just the idea of giving people the opportunity to go make plays.” Heald says, “We are dealing with a new generation of kids and they want to get excited about the sport.”
Heald has been working as a trainer in the Des Moines area and wanted to become even more involved in football. “I really enjoy the training side of things, but the X’s and O’s gets me more excited than just training. I wanted more of a role with a team and I wanted more of an impact on an entire group of players.”
With his hire not coming until July, he’s playing catch up in terms of having an offseason and getting to know the players. He notes he’s received a warm welcome from the community and wants to have a family oriented environment with trust and communication.
Heald played his high school ball at Cedar Rapids Washington, catching 63 passes for 965 yards and five scores. He played collegiately at William and Mary, a Division I FCS school in Virginia.
