(Atlantic) An Atlantic man faces numerous charges connected with a stabbing in Atlantic on Thursday afternoon.
Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue says at around 2:32 p.m.; the Atlantic Police Department was notified by the Cass County Communications Center of a stabbing at 106 Cedar Street. During the investigation, Officer contacted the victim and checked out by Cass County EMS for injuries sustained in the assault. Also, during the investigation, officers received a report of an assault at 205 West 2nd Street around 11:00 a.m.
AT 2:43 P.M., Anthony Asay of Atlantic, Iowa, was taken into custody at 1207 Birch Street in Atlantic. During the apprehension, Asay was uncooperative and resisted Officers. Asay faces charges of Willful Injury-Causing Bodily Injury, Assault Causing Bodily or Mental Illness, Possession of Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 2nd offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Interference with Official Acts.
The Atlantic Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
“I want to extend a thank you to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol,” stated Atlantic Police Devin Hogue. “As things unfolded today, it came out drastic over the radio, we were trying to sort it out quickly, and we had great support from both offices. Everyone worked extremely well together and we were able to sort through this in a timely manner.”

Chief Hogue notes: that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
