Mary Louise was born on May 28, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Stine and D. Lorene (Eittreim) Sebber. She attended Vincent Elementary in Vincent, Iowa, and later graduated in the Class of 1970, from Arnolds Park High School. Following graduation, she received her Associates Degree from Northwest Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mary was united in marriage to Timothy Fearing Hobbs on December 17, 1971, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with four children, Jenny, Justin, Matthew and Margaret. The family lived in Indiana, Colorado, North Dakota, making Atlantic home in 1982. Mary worked as a Medical Laboratory Technician for over 40 years; retiring in May of 2012.
She was an active church member throughout her life from singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School to serving many roles on the church board. Mary was a current member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Mary was also active in the community volunteering for the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Care Initiatives Hospice, the food pantry and at the Heritage House.
Mary enjoyed baking, monster cookies and the kids’ birthday cakes being her specialty, playing golf and bridge and singing in the community choir. She was a master organizer of some really great parties and who could forget the infamous NERD group that gathered at homes, restaurants and even went on scavenger hunts to places like the Mall of the Bluffs. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved watching her Iowa Hawkeyes Play during March Madness. Nothing brought her greater joy than being with her family, her grandkids holding an extra special place in her heart. She was a woman of unwavering faith and likely the reason Easter and Christmas were her favorite holidays.
